Fall Bedroom & Closet Organization
Early Fall is a great time to switch over our wardrobes in preparation for winter. It is important to set aside some time for this task as too many can fall into the trap of just shoving summer gear into the corner or letting it pile up on the dresser. So here are some tips to keeping organized as we switch into the colder seasons.
Schedule a few hours to a half a day for a full switchover, This is important as you don’t want to get caught in a bind where you start the project and are unable to finish. This will leave you feeling panicked and your room in a disarray until you have time to get to it again. No one wants to sleep in a room that’s all pulled apart and untidy nor do you want to come home from a long day wanting to unwind and see piles of stuff everywhere. Too many times we start a project with great intentions and get half way through, get distracted and it ends up never getting done.
Start by pulling all your spring/summer clothes out of the closet and drawers. Edit all the clothes you didn’t wear this past summer. Next edit all the clothes that don’t spark joy for you anymore. If you aren’t feeling them or just know you aren’t going to wear them again pass them along so someone else can love them as much as you did. Ensure you toss out or fabric recycle anything that is torn or stained.
Next pull all your fall/winter clothes to the front. Do a quick go through and ensure that you love all of the items. Do they still spark joy? Anything that no longer sparks joy, place in your edit pile. Remember there is always someone else who will love it so pass it along so someone can make use of it.
Ensure all your toques, scarves, mitts and boots are now easily accessible. You do not want to get stuck scrambling for them while you’re on your way out the door for work or school. Have a spot by your front door ready for everyone to grab their essentials quickly and go, this step will save you lots of time and frustration in the morning. If all you have is a hook, have each person tuck their mitts into their toque and tuck them into their hood on their jacket.
Lastly it’s time to switch over your bed to your warm blankets. If you have warmer sheets change those first and then add your big warm fluffy duvet or quilt. Top your bed with some nice throw pillows or blankets. This will wrap up your fall bedroom/ closet transformation.
Tip: Are the tops of all your bedroom surfaces clear of clutter? Make sure to have these areas as clear as possible with only a couple of your favourite décor pieces. This ensures your room looks and feels serene as soon as anyone enters it as your eye isn’t drawn to a pile of clutter as soon as you enter your room.
Once all these steps are completed you are ready for the new season. As a reward, make a nice warm tea/coffee and sit and enjoy your freshly made over space. You worked so hard and you deserve to take a few moments to enjoy the new energy of your room.
