Hygge Your Mother!
Have you heard of Hygge? Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) comes from a Danish word that means “give comfort and joy.” There’s no better description of a loving mother who gives life, comfort, and joy to her home and children! Mother’s Day gives us an excellent opportunity to thank our moms for their contribution to humanity!
Hygge is less about THINGS and more about a lifestyle. It’s creating a warm atmosphere that embodies an outlook on life that welcomes positivity and enjoyment of family and friends’ activities. Organizing and Hygge go hand-in-hand because chaos and clutter are not very relaxing!
Clutter-free Gift Ideas for Mom
Here are some great clutter-free, Hygge gift ideas for mom that can bring HER the same comfort and joy she’s brought to you!
Spend quality time together
Spending quality time together is an easy way to bring hygge into your life. It could be something fun like a spa day. If you can’t head to the spa, create your own spa day at home! Setting up a board game or puzzle night is also a simple option she may love. Print out a list of questions you can ask that may become valuable someday to future generations. Make a scrapbook together, and don’t forget to take photos! Doing something WITH mom (if possible) will be the best gift you can give her! As a mom myself, the one-on-one moments I can spend with my children are my favourite.
Enjoy delicious food together
We’re all familiar with how eating different foods can invoke memories and a corresponding emotional response in us! So make mom a memorable meal! Or maybe create your own wine tasting event? If she loves warm drinks, set up a beverage station in a cozy room. Find a meal she used to love from her childhood, or perhaps even from your childhood that she used to make and have fun remembering! Spend some time creating the meal together and put out candles, flowers, and a nice table cloth to enjoy the feast together.
Document her most cherished memories
Does your mom have an abundance of old photographs, video cassettes, or other memorabilia that she can’t enjoy because they’re not in the latest, usable format? What about getting her a conversion box to digitize old media? This is an excellent gift that mom will treasure, but so will the entire family! Document these memories can also bring up precious stories you are sure to laugh about together.
EASE her burdens!
Hire a cleaning service to come in and clean! If it’s the yard that could use some extra attention, hire a yard service. Or perhaps she’d enjoy a meal planning service to make meals simple and easy during the week? And lastly, who doesn’t need help being more organized? Hiring a professional organizer to come in with a custom plan to help things run more smoothly is a gift that keeps on giving! I’d love to offer your mom a free consultation to get her started.
Hygge is all about giving your mom experiences that spark comfort and joy. I hope you have a wonderful mother’s day and spend some quality time together that you’ll remember for years to come!
