Tips For Packing

One of the most exciting parts of real estate is when the sale or purchase of your home goes firm. If you’re a buyer, this means that you’ve removed any subjects for the home. If you’re a seller, it means that the buyer is happy with the property and is ready to make things official.

Either way, it’s time to celebrate!

But after the excitement dies down, reality sets in... it’s time to start packing. While this process can be daunting, it doesn’t have to be! We’ve come up with a list of tips to help make your move go smoothly.

Book your movers ASAP!

Moving companies can book up really quickly, so if you plan on hiring a moving truck or professionals to pack and move your entire house, it’s best to schedule this as soon as you know your dates. The last thing you want is to pay a premium price for last minute service, or worse, be left scrambling to find friends or family who might be able to help.

Do not empty your dresser drawers

Forget packing your dresser drawers - keep your items in place and stack the drawers on top of each other for one less thing to box up. Save money on boxes and save time on unpacking!

Use linens and towels to wrap fragile items

Bubble wrap can add up and create unnecessary waste for the environment. Use dish towels and bathroom linens to pack up your fragile and delicate items instead!

Use pots for small kitchen items

Using pots to store smaller, fragile items will cut down on costs and leave more boxes to use for other household items. It’s a win win!

Prevent Spills

We’ve all been there - something greasy or soapy leaks all over items we’ve packed together. It’s not fun. Pack confidently by wrapping liquid items in plastic or storing together in a separate box so that if anything leaks, you can simply rinse the other bottles off with ease.

Pack a bag full of essentials

Just like you would if you were going away, pack a bag full of essential items so that you don’t have to search through dozens of boxes to find your favourite face wash at the end of a long day of moving. This is a lifesaver!

Label or colour code boxes for each room of your home

Worried about items getting lost in the moving chaos? Make sure to label or colour code your boxes so that you know exactly what room they should be placed in the new home. Trust me, this save you so much time as you start to unpack!

I hope you find these tips useful as you prepare your move. A little organization as you pack up will make unpacking in your new home a whole lot more enjoyable!
