An Easy Organization Hack to Decide Which Clothes To Keep
Did you know that you wear 20% of your wardrobe 80% of the time?
I am always gravitating towards the same 7 shirts. They are shirts that I feel comfortable in, look good, and fit well. Then I have this giant "maybe" pile in my closet. You know the one. The clothing items that you can't bare to part with. Maybe it has been a few months since you have wore them, maybe 6, maybe it has been years. I am going to give you tips on how to deal with your "maybe" pile.
So you have sorted, decluttered, and organized your closet. See my post on the Top 7 Tips To Organize Your Closet for help. Now, you have a pile of maybes. These might be some of the reasons you are holding onto them:
You spent good money on them
You got them as a gift from someone
The item is connected to a special memory
The item is for special occasions
You hope to fit into it someday
I completely understand these reasons. Trust me, I am with you! What we need is a system to decide which maybe items to keep and which to donate. It is actually very simple.
1. Turn your hangers the opposite direction. The hook of the hanger should be facing you not the wall. 2. Every time after you wear an item you turn the hanger the correct direction.
3. After a predetermined amount of time, I suggest 6 months, you donate all the clothes on the hangers that are backwards.
The reason this exercise is so powerful is 2 reasons.
1. You see which items you wear.
2. It will give you the opportunity, each day, to wear your maybe items.
